Dell Rapids PBR wins first baseball title in nearly 20 years

Riley Calhoon drove in the go ahead runs in the 7th innings, as Dell Rapids PBR came from behind to beat the Platte Killer Tomatoes and win the Class ‘B’ amateur state championship 3-1 at Cadwell Park Sunday.

After six scoreless innings Michael Buitenbos got Platte on the board with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. Dells answered in the bottom half of the inning. Matt Gillogly tied the game with the bases loaded RBI single, before Calhoon followed with a two-run hit to put PBR up 3-1.

Drew Sweeter picked up the win, and Braden Pankonan the save. Sweeter threw 12.1 innings during the tournament for PBR and hit .450 for the tourney. He was named tournament MVP.

The title is PBR’s first since 2007, and 10th overall.
