Dakota State takes 2nd at Bethel Invite

The Dakota State Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams both finished 2nd on Friday, at the Bethel Invitational in Kansas. The Men’s top performer was Conner Tordsen who celebrated his birthday by setting a school record in the Hammer Throw. Tordsen became the first Trojan ever to surpass the hammer throw distance of 200 feet, earning a runner-up finish with a new school record toss of 200 feet, .5 inches. That throw was also a top 5 toss in the nation this year.

Elsewhere for the DSU Men, SenQuavius Johnson took fourth in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 10.94 seconds. Johnson, Trey Reindl, Willie Hutchins, and Brenner Furlong, teamed up for second place in the 4 x 100-meter relay. Furlong won the 400-meter dash title with a season best time of 49.14 seconds for DSU.

Tyra Payne claimed a pair of throwing titles in the meet for the DSU Women. She captured the hammer throw title with a toss of 148 feet, 6 inches. Payne also took home the discus title with a  throw of 128 feet, 6 inches. Morgan Huber took 5th place in the long jump. On the track, Josie Wulf was runner up in both the 400 and 200 meter dash. Jacia Christiansen was 2nd and Jada Anderson 3rd in the 1500-meter run. 

Dakota State returns to action next Friday and Saturday in the NCAA Division I meet, the University of South Dakota Challenge.  The North Star Athletic Association Outdoor Multi-Events Championships will also be held on the same days, in conjunction with the Dewy Donat Open hosted by NCAA Division II Northern State in Aberdeen.
