Cornbelt teams played where possible on Sunday
The Cornbelt Amateur Baseball League saw most of its schedule postponed or moved to new locations due to rain this week. All of this past Thursday’s scheduled games were postponed. Sunday’s Colman vs Flandreau Blue Teal doubleheader was postponed due to field conditions.Â
The Salem Cubs and Dell Rapids PBR doubleheader Sunday was moved to Madison, as both the Salem and Dell’s fields were unplayable. The Cubs won the first of those games 6-4, thanks in part to a 2-run homer from Jacob Vonberge, and 7 sharp innings from Tyler Earls. In game 2, PBR put up 4 runs in the first innings, on the way to a 9-0 win over Salem. Drew Sweeter threw a 7 inning shutout, allowing just 6 hits and striking out 4.
Canova and the Flandreau Cardinals spent most of Sunday looking for a place to play. They finally were able to get one game played in Sioux Falls. Kendall Gassman had 2 hits and picked up the win on the mound, as Canova won 8-1.
Also Sunday the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks hosted the Dell Rapids Mudcats. The Mudcats stayed undefeated in the Cornbelt this year by sweeping the doubleheader.Â
Games this week on KJAM include the Cardinals at Colman on Thursday at 7:00, and the Wood Ducks vs. the Gamecocks Friday night at 7:30. Both those games will be on Jammin’ Country 103.1. Then Sunday, the Gamecocks host PBR at 5pm on AM 1390. Full schedules and standings can be found on the Cornbelt page at AmazingMadison.com
