Cornbelt Round Up: Broncos split a pair with Flandreau, Mudcats sweep Colman

Cornbelt teams played double-headers on Sunday. The Canova Gang and Hartford-Humboldt Gamecocks split their games. The Gamecocks took game one 3-1. Briggs Havlik drove in two and Cole Barthel pitched all 7 innings, allowing just 4 hits while striking out 3. 

The second game of the double-header was even more low scoring, but also more dramatic. Tied at 1-1, a game that was scheduled for 7 innings went all the way to the 11th. Tim Gassman then singled in the game winning run for the walk-off win. 

Kendall Gassman went 10 innings for Canova, allowing just 6 hits and striking out 8.

Also Sunday, Madison split a pair of games with the Flandreau Cardinals. The Broncos fell 3-2 in game one, before winning the second game 4-3. 

Salem grabbed the first game from the Flandreau Blue Teal, 5-2. But Flandreau’s Ethan Johnson threw a shutout in the second game, leading the way for a 6-0 Blue Teal win. Johnson danced around 6 walks, with 4 strikeouts in the win. 

Also Sunday, the Dell Rapids Mudcats defeated the Colman A’s 10-0 and 7-0.
