Cornbelt Baseball To Get Underway

The 2020 edition of Cornbelt League amateur baseball is set for this weekend, with Sunday marking the first day of league play. The District 4B Tournament is scheduled for July 24th through August 1st in Dell Rapids. A multitude of teams have played non-league games or scrimmages to get tuned up for the summer.

Lennox, Salem, Canova, Flandreau, Dell Rapids MudCats and Madison were the six representatives to last year’s Class B State Amateur Tournament in Mitchell. Canova advanced to the semifinals before losing to Garretson 5-0. The Gang had also beaten fellow Cornbelt members in Flandreau and MudCats on their way to the semifinals.

With the league season being cut back a few weeks, league managers elected to use a divisional format for the regular season, playing everyone in your division twice throughout the season and then a few crossover games scattered in. Here is how the divisions are broken down:

Benz Division: Colman A’s, Dell Rapids PBR, Flandreau Cardinals, Lennox Only One Alpaca’s, Madison Broncos.

Gassman Division: Canova Gang, Dell Rapids Mudcats, Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks, Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks, Salem Cubs.

You can find the full Cornbelt League schedule plus our broadcast schedule on the Cornbelt page. Our first game will be Sunday at 5pm as Lennox takes on Flandreau – game can be heard on AM1390.
