The Madison Bulldogs picked up their first win of the Class A State Tournament on Friday, with a 3-0 win over Groton Area in the Consolation semifinals. Madison, who lost in the opening round on Thursday, defeated the Tigers by scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-14.

The two teams were tied seven times in the opening set, until Madison went on a 6-1 run and opened up the first real lead of the set. Long runs at the service line from Skyler Sargent and Kendra Leighton helped Madison put the opening set away. Set 2 played out the same way, with six ties in the early going before the Bulldogs took control. The 3rd and final set saw Madison open up a 9-3 lead, as the Bulldogs went on to win without ever trailing in the set.

Abby Brooks had a match high 12 kills for the Bulldogs. Grace Nelson had a double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs. Autumn Barger added a match high 4 blocks.

The Bulldogs will take on Winner, Saturday morning at 11:45CT, for the consolation championship. Pregame for that match begins at 11:30 on AM 1390 and AmazingMadison.com
