Bulldogs Tame the Tanagers; Madison wins 14-2
The Madison Bulldogs come away with another win after defeating the Vermillion Tanagers at home, 14-2 at the Dan Beacom Track Complex.
Madison’s defense has come to life late in the season and led this team to another win. Allowing just 10 total points combined in the last two outings. Racking up eight total sacks tonight in the win and had 10 total coming into the game.
The Tanagers couldn’t establish the run game at all. They finished with -43 rushing yards, making it the second time this season they held a team in negative yardage. The passing game was obsolete with just 9-for-25 passing.
Madison was led by Tyan Braskamp who had just one sack coming into the game and had half of the sacks (4) for Madison. To add insult to injury, Lincoln Anderson had an interception for the second straight game.
Eli Barger led the Bulldog offense in the rushing department, due to him seeing action at quarterback again this week. He had just one pass and it was incomplete but was a big part of the run game. He finished with 34 carries for 97 yards. Madison only finished with 46 passing yards, which is the lowest output all season. Though, it was actually part of the plan to not do too much passing due to the weather being cold, windy and rainy.
The offense was fortunate to get the early touchdown after the blocked punt from Parker Johnson and rush TD from Barger. The game did not see another TD after the opening quarter score until the final 37 seconds in the third.
The Bulldogs exceeded their season average in the penalty department in the game. They came in averaging six penalties for 45 yards. Then finished against Vermillion with eight penalties for 35 yards. Less in yardage, but bigger in number.
Next, the Bulldogs will travel all the way to Custer for a Thursday night football game against the Wildcats. Game kickoff will be at 6pm and pregame beginning at 5:30pm on Jammin Country 103.
