Broncos bats power Madison to the State Tournament

The Madison Broncos are heading back to the State Tournament, after a 10-6 win over Dell Rapids PBR Thursday, in the District 4B Tournament. Madison took a three run lead after two innings, only to see Dell Rapids comeback to tie the game.Madison took the lead for good in the 4th inning on Mitch McNary’s RBI groundout. Madison added three more runs in the 6th and 9th innings to secure the win.Â
Matt Burpee reached base five times, finishing the game 2-for-3 with 3 walks, and 2 runs scored. Trey Smith and Tyler Tappe each drove in 2 runs for the Broncos. Riley Calhoon had two RBI in the loss for Dell Rapids.Â
Aspen Dahl picked up the win. The young right-hander gave up 4 earned runs on 10 hits and 4 walks over 7 innings. He also struck out 7 PBR batters.Â
Madison now moves on to next week’s Class B State Tournament in MItchell. Dell Rapids PBR will play Lennox tonight for another chance to advance to State. That game begins tonight at 6pm, on AM 1390.
