The Madison Bulldogs swept a season opening doubleheader from Elk Point/Jefferson Saturday afternoon at Madison High School. The Bulldog girls started off the day with a 51-43 win over the Huskies. Elk Point scored the first four points of the game, but the Bulldogs came back to take a 5-4 lead after a low scoring 1st quarter. Madison never trailed the rest of the game. 

The Bulldogs led by six at half time, and by eleven after the 3rd. The Huskies closed that lead down to 2 points late in the 4th quarter, but a back-to-back threes from Zoey Gerry pushed the lead back to 8, and four free throws from Grace Nelson sealed the win. 

Kendra Leighton scored a game high 20 points for the Bulldogs. Briana Steuerwald added 10, and Lexie Roemen 7. Madison shot 40 percent from three point range, led by Leighton who was 4 of 8 from deep. 

In the boys game, the Bulldogs wasted no time building up a double digit lead, on their way to a 75-43 win. Cody Brown had 25 points by halftime, as Madison jumped out to a 47-23 advantage. That lead quickly grew to over 30 points in the 3rd quarter, and most of the 2nd half was played with a running clock. In the first game of the year the Bulldogs offense was red hot, shooting 52 percent from the field, and hitting 9 of 19 three point shots. 

Brown finished with a career high 30 points, and also pulled down 8 rebounds. Keaton Nighbert added 11 points, and Tyler Tappe 8. Carter Bergheim finished with 7 points and 4 assists. 

Madison girls and boys will host Tri-Valley on Tuesday night. Both games can be heard on AM 1390, with the video stream on the Madison Sports Page at AmazingMadison.com

Madison boys JV picked up a season opening win on Saturday, 46-37 over EPJ. Logan Albee had a game high 15 points, Dillon Bickett added 12 for the Bulldogs.

The freshman boys lost 51-43 to the Huskies. Aiden Jensen led Madison with 16 points. Joe Gors added 13 in the loss.
