The Salem Cubs saw their rally fall short yesterday afternoon versus Plankinton in first round action of the State Amateur Baseball Tournament. Trailing 6-3 heading into the top of the ninth, the Cubs got their first 3 batters on and would eventually have the tying run on third base with two outs. A fine defensive play at third base would end the game and season. Landon Neugebauer was at the heart of the offense yesterday, going 3 for 4 with a walk and a run scored. Isaac Anderson and Tyler Cleveland each tallied two hits for the Cubs in the loss.
Aftering falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Salem answered with three of their own in the 2nd inning, highlighted by back-to-back RBI singles by Anderson and Cleveland. Plankinton would answer with a run in the third, one in the fourth and two in the seventh. Tyler Earls took the loss on the mound as he went seven plus innings.
Other scores from yesterday’s action in Mitchell include Crofton over Harrisburg 5-1, Tabor defeated Kimball/White Lake 6-5 in 13 innings and Alexandria took down Lake Norden 11-1 in seven innings.
