On a day when rain played havoc with most of the Cornbelt League, the Salem Cubs and Lennox Only One were able to get in both games of a double-header on Sunday. Playing two 7-innings games it was Salem coming out on top in each, by scores of 6-2, and 12-9.
In game one the Cubs jumped out to a 5-0 lead, thanks to RBI hits from Brian Duxbury, Cory Struck, and Kohl Miller. Lennox put up their only two runs in the 4th, on a double and a sac fly. The early lead for Salem would hold up however, thanks to the pitching of Tyler Earls. He pitched all 7 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 7.
Lennox swung the bats well in Game 2, putting up 6 runs in the first innings to take the lead. But Salem answered back with and 8 run fourth inning. Corey Struck drove in two runs with a single, and Jon Forster hit a bases clearing double, as the Cubs took a 10-6 lead.
Isaac Anderson came in to pitch in the 4th, and despite giving up 3 runs, was able to make the lead last for the final 4 innings.
The two wins on Sunday give Salem a 6-2 record, and launch the Cubs into 2nd place in the league standings behind unbeaten Canova.
