Robert (Bob) Paul Kueter, 81, of Humboldt passed away on May 14, 2019 at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral mass will begin 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM with a 7:00 PM rosary and prayer service on Friday, also at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Wellington Cemetery, rural Humboldt.
Bob was born on September 18, 1937 southwest of Humboldt to William and Lenora (Kuborn) Kueter. He grew up near Humboldt on the family farm and later raised his family on a farm on the same section of Greenland Township. Bob attended St. Ann’s Catholic School and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1955.
Bob served in the 147th Field Artillery of the South Dakota Army National Guard as a Cannon Crew Member. He then served in the 114th Combat Support Squadron of the South Dakota Air National Guard as a Construction Equipment Operator. On July 7, 1967 He married Irene Grotewold of Larchwood, IA at Christ the King Church in Sioux Falls.
Bob was a lifelong farmer raising crops and livestock. He quit actively farming in 1992 and rented out his farmland (but still enjoyed spending time at the Humboldt Elevator!). At that time he started working for the West Central School District as a bus driver, maintenance, and other assignments. Working for the school allowed him do what he enjoyed, visiting with people of all ages. He retired from the school in 2017 after 25 years of service when dementia made it a challenge to continue.
Bob was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and a former member of St. Joseph’s (Wellington). He was also a member of the Montrose-Humboldt Knights of Columbus, and formerly on the Humboldt Farmer’s Elevator Board, Wellington Cemetery, along with other boards and callings (playing cards…) that gave him the opportunity to socialize with people.
He is survived by: his wife Irene, of Humboldt; 7 of his children, Tim (Darlene), Mark, Kevin, Brian, Julie (Troy) Sutton all of Humboldt, Dean (Tracy) of Montrose, SD, and Leslie of Sioux Falls, SD; 7 grandchildren, Ethan, Hayden, Darren, Maggie, Ryan, Hallie and Kellen; 2 sisters, Jean Ketcham and Carol Kueter Stinehart and brother Charles Kueter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Todd, and siblings, Sr. Martina (birth name Mary Doreen) Kueter, Bill Kueter, Dorothy Ketcham, Ed Kueter, Dick Kueter, and Patricia Clark.
