Wayne E. Moen, 53, of Salem, SD passed away peacefully on August 15, 2021.  Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with a time of sharing at 7 PM on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Wayne Moen was born May 31, 1968 to Bernadette (Underberg) Waller and Gayle Moen.  After graduating from Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls he moved to Arizona where he worked for his uncle in his glass shop.  He moved to Bridgewater, SD and worked with his father at Moen’s Lawn Service and Ethen Allen.  He worked for the city of Bridgewater as the Chief of Police where he enjoyed going into the classroom to help facilitate positive relationships.  In 2007 he joined the McCook County Sheriff’s Department where he proudly served for 4 years.  He joined CMC Excavating where he enjoyed underground tunneling.  In 2017 he became part of the South Dakota Department of Transportation where he worked until his passing.

Wayne met the love of his life JoAnn Gruenes while they both worked at Ethen Allen.  Wayne and his daughter added JoAnn into their family on April 12, 2001.  Their family was complete when Alex was born in 2003.

Wayne is survived by: his wife JoAnn of Salem, SD; his daughter, Xanady (William) Schlotter of Harrisburg, SD; his son Alex of Salem, SD; his grandchildren, Will, Genevieve, Felicity, and Milo; his mother and step-father, Bernadette and Jerry Waller of Sioux Falls; his sister, Laurie Moen of Sioux Falls; his mother and father-in-law, Anton and Mary Gruenes of Spring Hill, MN; as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Gayle Moen.
