Shirley Van Wyhe, 84, of Salem passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.  There will be a private family burial with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Shirley Mae Klueber was born January 5, 1937 in Howard, SD to Roland and Alma (Kostboth) Klueber.  The family then moved to Canistota where Shirley grew up and graduated from Canistota High School.  She went on to attend General Beadle College in Madison and earned her teaching certificate.  On December 27, 1958 she married Ralph Van Wyhe and together they raised their family near Salem, SD.

After her children were raised, she returned to college and obtained a degree in special education. She taught Sunday and Bible school. Shirley was an avid reader, enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, gardening, sewing and canning. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Shirley. She loved spending time with her family and traveling with them. Ralph and Shirley spent 20 years wintering in Florida. She was greatly interested in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Shirley was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota.

Survivors include:  husband, Ralph of Salem; daughters, Lisa (Gary) Sabers and Bridgett (Steve) Burling all of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Jeremy (Erin) and Darin (Jennie) Sabers and Nathan Burling; great-grandchildren, Andy, Lexi and Bodhi; and siblings, Jack (Lavonne) Klueber of Sioux Falls and Sharon (Dale) Buxengard of Spring Grove, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Eric, and siblings, Duane Klueber, Janet Schmidt, Herman Klueber and Derald Klueber.  Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran preschool in Canistota.
