Rory Peterson, 66, of rural Montrose passed away at his home on August 28, 2019 as a result of a farm accident. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, 9/7/19 at the Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem, SD from 2-4pm.

Rory Lee Peterson was born August 23, 1953 to Alton Peterson and M. Irene (Struckman) McTaggart in Watertown, SD. He graduated from Yankton High School in 1971. After high school, he lived in Yankton before he moved to California in 1981 where he worked at Ocean Pacific for 10 years. After that he moved back to Yankton, owned income property, and started an office supply business. In 1995, Rory moved to Wisconsin and worked in the elevator business for five years. In 2000, he left Wisconsin and lived in coastal California. Rory moved back to South Dakota in 2004 to the property in Montrose where he lived until his passing.

Rory enjoyed attending auction sales, buying and selling old cars, parts and memorabilia. He traveled throughout the region attending car shows and swap meets and made friends everywhere he went. He was a hardworking and happy man, always willing to lend a hand to those who needed it.

Rory is survived by his mother Irene McTaggart (Moose Lake, MN), sister-in-law Roxe Peterson (Moose Lake, MN), nephew Troy (Jan) Peterson (Coon Rapids, MN), Tonya (Jason) Benzie (Sturgeon Lake, MN), Tiffany (Mark) McIntyre (Wilson, WI), stepson Darick Thompson (Tea, SD), long-time partner Wynne Lucas (Montrose, SD), favorite cat Tuffy (Montrose, SD), and many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father Alton Peterson, and brother Alan Peterson.
