Ronald Dennis Moe

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dad, Ronald Dennis Moe. He passed away of natural causes on March 19, 2024 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Ronald was born on a farm north of Carthage, SD in Kingsbury County on April 7, 1935 to Leonard and Helen (Starzl) Moe. Ronald spent nearly 50 years of his life farming. He is quoted having said that he wasn’t the most religious man but if plowing, planting, and growing crops didn’t bring him closer to God, what would?

On October 7, 1956, Ron married Johna Dee Jarabek in Mitchell, SD.  Ron and Johna Dee raised four children on their farm east of Carthage until cancer took Johna Dee’s life in June 1979. After this loss, Ron continued farming and raising his three daughters still living at home.

After several years of being a widower, he married Maureen (Pittenger) Bridges in 1993. In 2004 they built a house and moved to Salem, SD. In 2017 Maureen passed away. Ronald spent many years as her caretaker.

Ron was defined by his love for his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. His family meant everything to him.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, JohnaDee Moe, Maureen Moe, newborn daughter Ronna Lee, and brothers Darold and Roger Moe. Ron is survived by his son, Rory Moe of Des Moines, IA, Renee (Roger) Laible of Howard, SD, Rochelle (Kenny) Carlson, Salem, SD, and Ronda Moe of Salem, SD. Ron had 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, all of which he dearly loved.

Though we mourn the loss of Dad, we take solace in knowing that he is now at peace, surrounded by the beauty of the land he loved so much. In the end, just as in life, Dad left on his own terms.  May his spirit continue to guide us, and may his memory live on in our hearts forever.

A private family burial will be held at Carthage Cemetery in Carthage, SD.
