Rodney D. Blindert, 71, of Salem passed away of natural causes on August 22, 2021 at his home.  Funeral services will begin on Saturday, August 28 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Friday with a prayer service at 7 pm, at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Rodney Donald Blindert was born August 27, 1949 in Mitchell, SD to Donald and Meta Blindert.  He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1967 and went to Denver Technical Institute.  Rod served in the U.S. Army, joining in 1969.  He then worked on onshore oil rigs in the Louisana, did road construction in Wyoming and for the last 35 years, drove truck and helped on the family farm near Salem.  Rod loved pheasant hunting and was very good about visiting friends and family in the nursing home and assisted living.  Over the last few years, he also enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his cousin.

Rod is survived by:  his step-mother, Genevieve Blindert of Salem; brothers, Craig (Glenda) of Salem and Scott of Salem; sister-in-law Karla Blindert of Salem; step-sisters, Barb (Steve) Strom of Madison and Kathy (Pat) Steece of Platte City, MO; nieces and nephews, Bridget, Luke, Josh, Stacey, Kayla, Zach, Ben, Dominic, and their children as well as cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry.
