Robert Hare

Robert Hare, age 87, of Wentworth, SD, died on Monday, December 25, 2023 surrounded by his
family at his home on Lake Madison.

Visitation will be 2-4 PM on Sunday, December 31 st at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with a
time of prayer to begin at 4 PM. A private family burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in
Wentworth.

Robert Arthur Hare was born June 4, 1936 at Wentworth, SD. The son of Frank and Edith Grace
(Curtis) Hare. He grew up on the family farm on the north shore of Lake Madison, where he
attended and graduated from Chester High School in 1955. Bob was united in marriage to
Shirley Shaver on June 4, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Madison. He farmed with his
wife Shirley and raised their family on the Hare Homestead on the north shore of Lake
Madison. In addition to farming, he worked at the family's other business venture renting
property to many people over the years on their lake shore property. He also worked at
Chaffins, Fullerton Lumber Company and Madison Livestock Auction Company.

Above all else, Bob was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather (papa-papa),
son and brother. Bob’s special place was at his home on the north shore of Lake Madison. Bob’s
family and lake shore tenants were his greatest pride and joy. Over the years Bob has grown
close to the many friends his children brought home and to his tenants at the lake.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Renee Grayson, Sioux Falls; Rod Hare (special
friend, Anita Peterson), Dave (Sara) Hare, Eric (Pam) Hare all of Wentworth; grandchildren: Bob
(Becky) Bessman, Becky (Mike) Gasser, Katie (Colby) Johnson, Kelsey (Nick) Benedetto, Laura
Hare, Ashley Hare, Tyler Hare (Katie Kost) and Blaine Hare; eight great grandchildren. Also left
to cherish his memory are special nephews: Rick Shaver, Randy (Kris) Shaver, Dan (Jennifer)
Shaver, Paul Sterling, one sister, Kay Gill and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers Frank, Don and Louie Hare.
