Richard Klinkel
Richard “Dick” Klinkel, 75 of DeSmet died Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the DeSmet Hospital in DeSmet, SD.
Richard “Dick” Klinkel was born to Alvin Herman and Alice Halvarson (Beck) Klinkel on October 13, 1947 at DeSmet, SD.
His father’s business was local and long distance trucking and his mother did income tax work. Dick was an active little boy running around with a grease rag and helping his dad in the trucking business. He attended elementary and high school in DeSmet graduating in 1966.
He was employed by the City of DeSmet for sometime, he also worked for farmers, a veterinarian, the DeSmet Sale Barn, planted trees for Kingsbury County and was employed at Gehl in Madison, SD. He also shoveled a lot of grain. He married Marlene Hass a school teacher. To this union 5 children were born, whom he dearly loved: Tabetha (Dan) Gravelle, Michelle Linnae Klinkel, Amy Annette (Nick) Notbohm, Ryan Carl Klinkel, Meggan Irene (David) Rensink.
Dick was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He enjoyed the Minnesota Twins and college sports. The Andy Griffith Show was a favorite and he liked music. He liked to visit with people and cared about their name and where they came from, he’d ask “How do you spell that” Dick struggled with mental health issues, the illness robbed him and his family of so much.
He entered the Good Samaritan Society of DeSmet in July of 2016. On Dec. 5th he entered the DeSmet Memorial Hospital and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 14, 2022.
He is survived by Marlene Klinkel of Lake Preston, SD, his children, Tabetha (Dan) Gravelle of Detroit Lakes, MN, Amy (Nick) Notbohm of Gilbert, AZ, Ryan Klinkel of Brookings, SD, Meggan (David) Rensink of Brookings, SD, eight grandchildren, Johnathon Melby, Nichole (Reece) Scarie, Rebeeca Melby, Emma, Lydia and NathanieL Notbohm, Angelle Plueger and Willow Rensink and a half brother Earl in Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Klinkel, parents, sister Ginger Hagemann half brother, James Klinkel, half sister, Alice Siver, half sister Helen Mahoney, and half sister, Colleen McBurnett.
Funeral services for Richard “Dick” Klinkel will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington with Pastor Aaron Olson officiating, burial will be in the DeSmet Cemetery at DeSmet, SD. Visitation will be an hour and a half before services at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington on December 21, 2022.
