Phyllis Kurth

Phyllis Kurth, 88, of Mitchell, formerly of Canova, passed away on June 27, 2024.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 2 at Sun Prairie Baptist Church, rural Salem.  Visitation with family present will be held on Monday from 5 – 7 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem.

Phyllis J. Bahr was born in Lake County, SD to John and Myrtle (Roling) Bahr on August 22, 1935.  She attended General Beadle to become a hairstylist.  Phyllis lived in Sioux Falls for a time and she met Veryle Kurth.  They were married in 1960 in Salem.  They lived in Salem for 20 years and in the early ‘80’s moved to Canova, where they lived for the rest of their lives together.  Phyllis recently moved to Mitchell to be closer to her son.

Phyllis enjoyed gardening, flowers, and helping people.  She did home care for 18 years, volunteered at the food pantry for over 20 years and served as an usher at Sun Prairie.

Phyllis is survived by: her sons, Russell Kurth (special friend, Melanie Fast) of Rapid City and Randy (Marie) Kurth of Mitchell; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Francis Bahr; brother-in-law, Jerry (Connie) Kurth; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 48 years, Veryle and her siblings, Earl, Fern, Harold, Delores, and Leonard.
