Phillip Clifford Moore

Phillip Clifford Moore went to be with the Lord on July, 26, 2024.   Funeral services will begin at 11 am on Wednesday, July 31 at United Methodist Church in White Lake.  Visitation with family present will begin at 9:30 am.  Burial will be held at 2:30 pm at Riverside Cemetery, rural Canistota.

He was born July 10, 1943 in Yankton, SD to Clifford and Viola (Tarrell)  Moore.  He graduated from Canistota High School in 1961 and the University of South Dakota-Springfield with his teaching degree. On August 2nd, 1976 he married  Cheryl (Olson) and they had 4 children.  Phillip played football while at the university of South Dakota and also was an undefeated wrestler while there with a record of 1 and 0!  Phillip taught practically every subject including Driver’s Education at some point during his 40 plus years of teaching, however his passion was coaching. His career started in Gayville, SD for 1 year then onto Crofton, NE for 1 year and then White Lake until retirement.  While in White Lake he coached football, wrestling, basketball but his overall favorite was track and field. He was lucky to have an undefeated football season, state champion wrestlers while being named the state assistant coach of the year and multiple individual and team state champions in track and field while being the state coach of the year in 2001.

Phil was a proud supporter of 4-H, which included 45+ consecutive years at the SD State Fair. Phil and his family raised German Shorthair Pointers, sheep, horses, and short horn cattle.

Phil is survived by his two sons, Clint (Rebecca) of White Lake, SD and Clayton (Traci) of Mt. Vernon, SD; one son-in-law, James (Jennifer) Axelson of Newkirk, OK; two brothers, Loran (Delores) of Yankton, SD, Douglas (Gerri) of Sundance, WY, and sister, Rosalie of Rapid City, SD; his 8 grandchildren Austin of White Lake, Kimberly Axelson of Cheyenne; WY, Ashley of Burke, SD; Ryan Axelson stationed with the Navy in South Carolina; Trayton of Mt Vernon; Alexis of White Lake; Jalyn of Mt Vernon; and Aubrey of White Lake.

He was preceeded in death by his wife, Cheryl; his son, Clifford Moore; his daughter, Michelle Axelson; his parents, Clifford and Viola Moore.
