Michael James McCormick, 70, of Salem, SD was welcomed by a choir of angels into his heavenly Father’s kingdom on September 12, 2021.  Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 16 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  There will be a 7 pm prayer service on Wednesday, September 15 with the family present one hour prior to the service also at the church.

Michael was born in Sioux Falls, SD on August 17, 1951 to Philip and Leona (Heumiller) McCormick.  He was a faithful servant to the Lord and was baptized, confirmed and on April 7, 1973, married his high school sweetheart, Kay Rayman, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  They welcomed two children, a son, Matt and a daughter, Katie. With his wife by his side, they owned and operated McCormick Motors in Salem.  Over the years, he received numerous awards from Ford Motor Company and in 2004 was awarded the Time Dealer of the Year.

Mike was very active in his community and church.  He was involved in numerous organizations including: Salem volunteer firefighter, Salem Community Development, PSA (of which he was president for many years), McCook County Pro Pheasants, McCook Wildlife Club, Knights of Columbus, Foresters, and the Sioux Emperians Barbershop Chorus.  Mike was also an avid hunter and golfer.  Many people will remember he fiercely loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

Michael was preceded in death by: his parents, Philip and Leona, his brother, Robert, his father and mother-in-law, William and Joan Rayman, and a granddaughter, Kennedy Jibben.

He is survived by: his wife, Kay; son, Matt (Lori) McCormick; daughter, Katie (Chris) Jibben; brothers, Bill McCormick, Kevin (Jane) McCormick, and Philip (Angie) McCormick; sisters, Carole (Roger Wanek) McCormick and Mary Jo (William) Oertli; grandchildren, Michaela, Zane, Burke, and Coy McCormick and Crayton and Paige Jibben as well as numerous family members and friends.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials for a charity of the family’s choice.
