Martin “Lefty” Wolf

Martin “Lefty” Wolf, age 88, of Sioux City, IA, passed away at his home on September 29, 2024.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 3 PM on Friday, October 4th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father Anthony Urban and Father Bob Krantz as Con-Celebrants. Visitation will be 1-2:30 PM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with a Rosary at 2:30 PM. There will be a luncheon immediately following mass at Nicky’s. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Martin Cyril Wolf was born on February 6, 1936 to Martin and Lillian (Strang) Wolf in Ramona SD. He was one of twelve children. He attended Saint Agatha High School in Howard where he excelled in basketball. He was offered a scholarship to play basketball at General Beatle college in Madison but decided to keep his construction job because his boss offered him a 10-cent raise.

On November 29, 1958 he married Bonnie Mae Miller. Lefty and Bonnie were blessed with seven children. Their first child, Douglas, preceded him in death and only spent a short time on our earthly home.

Lefty and Bonnie dabbled in a couple of business ventures while raising their family. These ventures included “Wolf Pizza Den” and “Lefty’s Steak House.” They met many wonderful friends during this time. Lefty went on to work for Morman’s Feed in the 1960’s where he worked hard to achieve being a top five sales manager in the nation. He retired from Morman’s after 37 years.

On March 26, 1995 Lefty lost is wife Bonnie to cancer. On December 27, 1996 Lefty married Darlene Krumvieda and to this union, Darlene brought her four children into Lefty’s life.

After retirement, Lefty and Darlene moved to Arizona where they enjoyed playing golf, cards, pool and darts. There they met many amazing people who became their very close friends. Because the Arizona summers were extremely warm, they spent summers traveling to visit family and friends. Lefty was well liked among the residents in Brighthaven Estates retirement community. He was referred to as “The Mayor.” He was an active member in the community. Lefty served as a St. Vencent De Paul volunteer in the Mesa Arizona area during his retirement.

In 2022 Lefty and Darlene decided to move back to the Midwest and settled in Sioux City for the last two years of his life.

Lefty is survived by his wife Darlene, his children, Jeff (Lee) Wolf, Becky (Lynn) Popma, Sue (Tim) Asche, Jill (Marty) Leberknight, Lisa Wolf Rust, Rick (Lisa) Wolf, grandchildren Jamie, Brett, Jennifer, Dustin, Trevor, Drew, Chelsea, Ethan, Kennidy, Brady, Dominick, Karlee, Kenna, Lauren, Savannah, Hunter, and 23 great grandchildren. Stepchildren, Doug (Bev) Vogel, Shiela (Bob) Auske, Doyle (Pam) Vogel, Kevin (Stacey) Vogel, twelve step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. His brother Gary (Bonnie) Wolf and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, son Douglas, his parents, ten brothers and sisters and son-in-law Warren Rust.
