Marguerite Roberts

Marguerite “Sam” J. Roberts, 76, of Spencer passed away on September 9, 2020 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.  A visitation with family present will be held on Friday, September 11 from 4 – 7 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Marguerite J. Sanford was born March 30, 1944 to Grant and Donna (Felkey) Sanford in Jackson, MI.  She graduated from Vandercook Lake High School and on March 1, 1969 she married Charles Roberts in Jackson.  The family moved to South Dakota in 1983 and together, Chuck and Sam owned and operated Spencer Automotive in Spencer, SD.  The business was destroyed by the tornado in 1998, but they rebuilt and ran it into the early 2000’s.  Sam then worked at Fuel Mart near Spencer for several years.  She loved spending time with her grandkids and also enjoyed crocheting, cats and motorcycles.

Sam is survived by:  her husband, Chuck of Spencer; children, Darlene Roberts of Sioux Falls and Greg (Gail) Roberts of Spencer; grandchildren, Michael, Kimberly and Katie Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Murphy, Cynthia, Michael Jr., Annabelle and Kase; siblings, Grant Sanford Jr. of CO and Doreen Sanford of MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She w
