Lyle J. Healy

Lyle J. Healy, 94, of Montrose passed away October 1, 2024 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.  Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday October 7, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Montrose.  Visitation with family present will begin at 6 pm on Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 pm, also at the church.

Lyle John Healy was born April 2, 1930 to Will and Rose (Sullivan) Healy in Montrose, SD.  He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Montrose High School.  Lyle served in the Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on March 30, 1955.  He worked at Morrell’s for 30 years and farmed.

On June 23, 1956, he was united in marriage to Donna Hendel at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian, MN.  They moved to the Healy family farm in Montrose in 1957.

Lyle was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where he was active in the Knights of Columbus.  He also belonged to the American Legion Ruste-Waul Post 154 in Montrose.

Lyle enjoyed attending sporting events, bowling, hunting, fishing, playing cards, summertime at their Brant Lake Cabin, winters in Donna, TX, and traveling with his children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared in his life are: his children, Deb Liesinger of Hartford, SD, Rod Healy of Custer, SD, Steve Healy of Topeka, KS, Sheila (Jerry) Heiberger of Watertown, SD, Terry (Rita) Healy of Maple Grove, MN, and Julie (Andy) Hanisch of Humboldt, SD; twelve grandchildren, Laura Tjepkes, Michael Liesinger, Erin Kaul, Shawn Healy, Matt Heiberger, Tyler Heiberger, Paige Heiberger, Karlie Horton, Colton Healy, Austin Healy, Jace Hanisch and Ashlyn Hanisch; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Kappenman; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna, and eight siblings.
