Lester Wienk, 92, of Lake Preston, SD died Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at United Living Community in Brookings, SD.

Lester Wienk was born February 13, 1927 to Lena (Appledorn) and Edwin Wienk in Lake Preston, SD.  Lester graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1945.  He enlisted with the United States Army in March, 1951 and discharged in March, 1953.  He was stationed in San Luis Obispo, CA.  Lester married Betty Lewallen on October 23, 1951.  Together they lived on the family farm in Lake Preston and raised 6 children.  Lester was a lifetime farmer.  He was an active member in the American Legion, the United Church of Christ and a local card club.  He enjoyed his flowers, birdwatching and his dear cat, Ashley.
He is survived by his children: Thomas Wienk (Janet) of Omaha, NE; Charles Wienk (Brenda) of Lake Preston, SD; Gene Wienk of Lake Preston, SD; Connie Hamsa (Steve) of Brandon, SD; Terri Helms (Mike – friend) of Sherwood, WI; a daughter-in-law Marsha Wienk of Bath, SD.
Grandchildren:  Julianne Coffey, Ryan Wienk, Sherry McMasters, Andy Wienk, Jon Wienk, Brent Wienk, Kayleigh Kallenberger, Jackie Susie, Ashley Brooks, Kelli Mork, James Mork, Ali Dutil, Jacob Hamsa, Tyler Hamsa, Marty Helms and Mason Helms.
Along with 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by his wife Betty Wienk, his parents Lena and Edwin Wienk, his brothers Kenneth Wienk, Donald Wienk, Robert Wienk, his sisters Mildred Calmer, Gladys Vogel, Lucille Larson and Helen Bjordahl, his son Wayne Wienk and grandson Anthony Wienk.
Funeral services for Lester will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Lake Preston United Church of Christ with Pastor Joleen Pietrzak officiating, burial will be in the Lake Preston Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 in the church and before service.  The Johnson-Henry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
