Larry Genzlinger, age 66, of Howard, passed away October 1, 2019, due to natural causes
while hunting in the Black Hills. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2020, at
the Beach United Methodist Church in Howard. Burial will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in
Howard. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday, at the church.
Larry Arthur Genzlinger, was born April 5th, 1953 to Perry and Margie Genzlinger. Larry spent
his entire life around Howard, graduating from Howard High School in 1971.He wrestled for the
Tigers and was active in 4H, with the Clearwater Country Cousins. He even took a trip to
Chicago as part of the state judging team.
Larry was a part of the Howard fastpitch softball team, as a pitcher. Later on he coached his
children’s teams and became an umpire for the South Dakota Umpire Assoc for over 20 years.
On Friday nights, you could find him spending his night at the bowling alley.
Larry helped farm the family land. He added pigs and cattle of his own. Always choosing to
work with agriculture and livestock, he worked at the Howard Beef plant, Eich’s Meat Market
and the Howard Cold Storage. He also worked for the Miner County Conservation Board and
the Howard Co-op. He would never turn down helping anyone in need.
He married Cynthia in 1980 and adopted Chadwick and Sarah. They also had two children
Adam and Tessa. Later in life, Larry had two more children with LaDonna, Allissa and Lindsey.
He became a grandfather in 2004. Sarah, Savannah, Hailey, and Brayden all loved spending
time with their Papa Larry.
His mom taught him the ways of the kitchen. Canning was one of those things, making endless
jars for family and friends.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors more than most. Hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes. He
even took 3 trips to Canada with two of his children to go on bear hunts. He was successful on
all 3 of his trips, adding a fourth from Minnesota. He had countless deer tags for East and
West River. He got his prized elk in the Custer State Park, and got a few antelope over the
years. He enjoyed taking his nephews out for a goose or pheasant hunt. Larry even threw in a
couple turkeys.
Larry is survived by his children: Chadwick Genzlinger, Adam Genzlinger (Alesha), Tessa
Genzlinger, Allissa Mette (CK), Lindsey Genzlinger (Jeremy). Grandchildren: Sarah,
Savannah, Hailey, and Brayden. Siblings: Geraldine Benson (Jerry), Barb Genzlinger (Dave),
Ray Genzlinger (Kay), Mike Genzlinger (Lisa). One uncle, Garry Genzlinger, and three aunts,
Dee Rasmussen, Ardis Bauer, and Bonnie Burmeister.
Preceded in death by his parents; Perry and Margie Genzlinger, daughter; Sarah Genzlinger, brother; Dennis Genzlinger and 13 aunts and uncles.
