Kevin Ashley Bartlett was born on November 7, 1977 in Valentine, NE to parents, Carl and Cheryl. Kevin grew up in Spearfish where he enjoyed golf, basketball, baseball, choir, band, 4-H, debate and school plays. He was a legislative page as well as a legislative intern during high school. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 1996 then attended Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD graduating in 1999 with a degree in Banking & Financial Support Services.  He was a member of Phi Beta Lambda and Problem Based Learning (PBL).

Kevin met Sara (Homan) during bingo at the Catholic Hall in White River when she was 13 and he was 15 years old. They stayed in contact throughout their middle and high school years. Kevin even attended prom with Sara in 1996 and 1998.

Kevin and Sara were united in marriage on October 11, 2003 in White River, SD. They bought their house and moved to Montrose in 2004. Kevin was employed at Fiserv in Sioux Falls for 15 years as a Client Tech Support Specialist.

Kevin cherished his children and made sure they were always his top priority. Elliott was born on May 30, 2006 and Brenna and Channing were born on January 6, 2010. Kevin coached Channing and Elliott’s baseball teams and Brenna’s basketball team. He also assisted with the boys’ flag football teams throughout the years. Kevin also coached Channing and Elliott on the sidelines of the wrestling mat even though he had little knowledge of the sport and learned right along with the boys. He was a 4-H leader as well as a community and church volunteer. Kevin was always the first to step in to volunteer when someone was in need.

Kevin’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, golfing and cheering on the Vikings. He took Elliott and Channing hunting, and helped Elliott get his first deer. His four-legged companions were never far away. Kevin adored his dogs Bell and Gauge and previous dogs Cherokee and Ranger. He enjoyed taking the family to sporting events including Twins, Cardinals, Brewers, Vikings, and Celtics Games.
