Kelly Heumiller, 63, of Salem passed away at her home surrounded by her family on December 1, 2022 following a brief battle with cancer.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 7 at Montrose United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Kelly Lynn Wingen was born to Ray and Lenice (Morrison) Wingen on May 1, 1959 in Sioux Falls.  She grew up in Montrose, SD where she attended Montrose School.  She married Mark A. Heumiller at St. Patrick’s in Montrose on September 27, 1975.  Kelly and Mark made their home on a farm north of Salem, SD.  To this union was born two sons, Matthew and Anthony Heumiller.  Kelly worked various jobs including the 49er gas station in Salem, SD, Raven Industries in Salem and ending with Rosebud Door Store in Madison, SD.  After her retirement from those jobs, she was active with the McCook County Food Pantry and helping Mark farm.

Her hobbies included caring for her large garden for canning, embroidering dish towels and pillowcases and raising her chickens.  In her younger years she enjoyed playing women’s softball with a group of great ladies.  She loved to mow the lawn because Mark didn’t do it right.  She loved to bake for her family and always had goodies in the freezer for her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed following her grandchildren’s activities and loved listening to music.

She is survived by: her husband, Mark of Salem; her sons, Matthew (Darci) of Dell Rapids and Anthony (Beth) of Montrose; her parents, Ray and Lenice Wingen of Montrose; her sister and best friend, Karla (Ted) Anderson of Montrose; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Laurie Dunn, Leonard (Tracelynn) Heumiller, Deb (Don) Lobien, Tom (Lori) Heumiller, John Heumiller and Mary (Rob) Hansen; grandchildren, Hayle (Mark Bals) Heumiller, Alexis (Ryan) DeBoer, Kylie Heumiller, Carter Heumiller, Anthony Heumiller, Isaiah Heumiller and Jackson Heumiller; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother- and father-in-law, Cletus and Shirley Heumiller, brother-in-law, Mike Heumiller and cousin, Deb O’Daniels.
