Judith Buehner

Judith L. Buehner, 76, of Canistota, SD passed away on June 3, 2022 at her home under hospice care.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 8 at Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota.  Visitation with family present will be held Tuesday from 5 -7 pm with a 7 pm prayer service at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Judith Larainne Waage was born December 30, 1945 in Brookings, SD to Thomas and Mabel (Krager) Waage.  She grew up in Humboldt, SD.  On May 15, 1966, Judy was united in marriage to Donald Buehner at West Zion Lutheran Church near Wall Lake.  Don and Judy have been life-long members of Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota.

Judy farmed with Don north of Canistota until they retired and moved into town in 2010.  Throughout her life she also worked at the grocery store, ice cream shop and cleaned.  Judy had a passion for quilting, crafting and collecting!  She opened her own business in 1993, Buehner’s Bargains, and ran it for over 25 years.  She was an exceptional quilter and gifted many of her special creations to her family and friends. She also loved a good card or dice game with her grandchildren and was often working through a Sudoku puzzle.

Judy is survived by: her husband, Don; children, Duane (Jamie) Buehner and Kristi (Rick) Christensen; grandchildren, Eric (Kayla), Elysia (Trevan), Will and Nathan; and great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Elizabeth and Theodore; sisters, Jean (Gerald) Ordal and Joan Everson; sister-in-law, Connie; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tyrone.
