Joanne Limmer-Gagnon, age 82, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Madison, passed away Thursday, January 26,
2023 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be 11 AM on Saturday, February 4 th at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Karl
Breddin officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 PM on Friday at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer
service at 6 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial
will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Wentworth. Online register book is at www.rustandweilandfuneral.com.

Joanne Mae Kock was born May 10, 1940 in Chester, SD to Harry & Dena (Nielsen) Kock. She graduated
as valedictorian of her class on May 23, 1958 from Chester High School. The very next summer, on June
8, 1959, she married Darwin Limmer in Wentworth. They made their home on a farm just west of
Wentworth. Darwin passed away September 10, 1976 of an accident. Joanne was a farmwife and
mother but she also worked as a dental assistant for a dentist in Dell Rapids and later for one in
Madison. On December 5, 1980, she married Virgil Gagnon and were married for almost 37 years
before he passed on October 17, 2017.
Joanne was very good with numbers and that made her the bookkeeper of their farm operation and she
later expanded to area businesses and individuals. Joanne will be remembered by many for her many
acts of volunteering. She served as a Madison city commissioner, Rosehill Cemetery Board, FEMA and
so many more organizations. When she did find time for herself, she loved her gardening and baking &
cooking for her family.
Joanne is survived by her son, Mark (Delorus) Limmer of Wentworth; step daughter, Renee Whalen of
Sioux Falls; step son, Joseph Gagnon of Sioux Falls; 2 grandchildren, Caitlin Scheidt (Doug Ragsdale) and
Tierra Scheidt; 6 step grandchildren, Megan (Jeff) Fair, Melinda (Jon) Olinger, Matthew (Christina)
Kooiker, Cami (Troy) Deelstra, Shannon Whalen and Brittin Whalen (Jeff Bream); 2 brothers, Merlin
(Judy) Kock and Richard Kock; 2 sisters, Judy (Don) Finnell and Gloria (Warren) Bidwell; 5 great-
grandchildren, 17 step great-grandchildren, 1 step great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces,
nephews, and other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Ernie Merry; both husbands; daughter, Lisa
Limmer; brother, Gerald Kock; sister, Lyvonne Yeigh; 2 step great-grandchildren & several other
relatives.
