Jerome Reif, 83, of Salem passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at his home.  Due to current gathering limitations, a private family funeral mass will be held at 2pm on Monday, April 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem.  Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Salem.

Jerome Marvin Reif was born on March 27, 1937 to Ernest and Isabella (Sandstrom) Reif in Salem, SD.  He grew up and attended school in Salem and worked on the family farm for 10 years before beginning his career at Feterl’s Manufacturing.  He married Julieann Streff on November 24, 1962 in Sepulveda, CA.  They resided there for 6 months before moving back to Salem.  He resumed his position at Feterl’s and worked there until retirement as Section Supervisor.

Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He enjoyed spending time outside, camping with his family when they were young, doing puzzles, woodworking, gardening, and was an avid hunter.  He especially loved his family and spending with his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by: his wife, Julieann of Salem; children, Grace (Neil) Norton of Aberdeen, James (Gina) Reif of Brandon, Jerry (DeAnn) Reif of Aberdeen, Rozanna (Roger) Casanova of Aberdeen, Jason (Denise) Reif of Stratford, Joy (William) Perkins of Sioux Falls and Julian Reif of Salem; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Mary) of Armour and Judy (Herb) Rechtenbaugh of Hartford; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Doug, infant child, Marion and brother, Robert.
