Harold Mellom
Harold Mellom, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Wednesdays September 18, 2024 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 21st at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Lindley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St Olaf Cemetery in Baltic. The funeral will be live streamed on the funeral chapel Facebook page beginning at 1:55 PM.
Harold Emmett Mellom was born June 25, 1939 to Lorenz & Swanhild (Gran) Mellom in Colton, South Dakota. Harold had a strong faith in God, going to church was important to him. Harold was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Colton Lutheran Church Parish. He attended schools at Colton and in Sioux Falls (Hollister and Crippled Children’s Hospital & School) where he learned to swim. Harold had so many gifts. He loved flowers, gardening and mowing. He has a contagious smile and genuinely cares for others. His parents were involved with a group that started workshops for a mentally handicapped people. The first Workshop opened in the early ’60s with four people and Harold was one of the four. Harold is a pioneer of what became a Statewide benefit for so many people, having and giving them self-worth. Harold was a very enthusiastic worker and he did his jobs very well and helped others to do theirs as well! Harold moved to Madison and started a new journey to work at the ECCO workshop. He moved into the high-rise apartments and there he met his true love Shawna and they were married on April 9, 2005. They had a special marriage and were blessed by so many people.
He is survived by his four sisters, Terry Weiland of Madison, Betty Voigt of Phoenix, Swanee Pringle of Sun City West, Arizona, Linda Marks of Sioux Falls: several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shawna, who passed away on August 8, 2024.
Harold is on his new and final Journey, where he will be met with open arms wide from his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his precious Shawna.
