Geneva Mattson 89, joined her Heavenly Father on January 10th, 2020. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, January 16th, 2020 at Preston Christian Church, rural Bruce, SD with Tim Smith officiating. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:00 am. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 15th at Johnson-Henry Funeral home in Arlington, SD from 5-7 and at the church one hour prior to services on Thursday. Burial to take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bryant, SD. Active pallbearers will be: Troy Casper, Eric Josephson, Jeremy Josephson, Randy Timmer, Larry Kaasa and Patrick Parker.

Geneva Constance Johnson was born on December 27, 1930 to Clarence and Altida Johnson (Buhn). She grew up and was confirmed in the First English Lutheran Church in Badger, SD, attended school in Badger, SD and graduated from Arlington High School in 1948.

As a child, Geneva memorized scripture daily and practiced the piano diligently. Later she made good use of all those hours of practice by playing in her church and at the Neighborhoods in Brookings, SD.

Geneva married Curtiss Josephson on October 24, 1948. To that union Virginia was born in 1949, Wes in 1952 and Patricia in 1961. Curtiss and Geneva farmed near Bryant, SD she kept busy milking the cows, feeding the pigs and chickens. She was a great cook and always had something good baking or cooking in her kitchen.

Curt and Geneva raised their three children on their family farm near Bryant and in the Bryant Lutheran Church where she directed the church choir and played the organ for 10 years. In later years Geneva worked in the Bryant Nursing Home. In 1990 Curtiss and Geneva moved into Bryant, SD and Curtiss passed away in 1998 after 49 ½ years of marriage. Geneva married her high school friend, Gene Mattson, in 2002 and they made their home in Arlington, SD. Gene passed away in 2007. Geneva moved into the Neighborhoods in Brookings, SD in 2017. She will be missed for all the love, guidance and prayers she gave to her family, especially her grandchildren.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Curtiss Josephson, her two daughters Virginia and Patricia. She is survived by her son, Wes (Betty) Josephson of Sioux Falls, SD, her grandchildren, Christina (Randy) Timmer, Troy (Lisa) Casper, Eric Josephson, Audra (Larry) Kaasa, Jeremy (Tami) Josephson, Wendy Paulsen, Michelle (Patrick) Parker, 12 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
