Francis Schnell, age 92, of Ramona, SD, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Thursday, September 10th at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Memorial mass will be 10:30 AM on Friday, September 11th at St. William’s Catholic Church in Ramona, with Father Bob Vinslauski as the Celebrant. For those attending, facemasks will be required. Inurnment will be immediately after the mass in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Badus Township. Lunch will be served following inurnment at the St. William’s Parish Hall. Francis Emanuel Schnell was born September 3, 1927 in Ramona, SD to Frank & Irene (Conway) Schnell. He graduated from Salem High School in 1945. On April 23, 1946 he entered into the US Army, and was honorably discharged on September 15, 1947. Frank met Margaret Knippling and they were married January 9, 1954 in Stephan, SD. They moved to the family farm northeast of Ramona. He remained there until two years ago, then moving in with his son Mike and his family. Early on, Frank farmed for himself, until 1969, when he began working at Wenk Foods. After several years passed, Frank began to work for Rapid Air and continued working there until his retirement in his early 70’s. During his retirement, he cared for his farm place and would help the Rensch family with seasonal field work.
Frank was a collector of guns and enjoyed hunting. He also liked to sit and play cards with friends and family whenever he got the chance. He was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children-Eileen Schnell of Sioux Falls, SD, Raymond Schnell of Chicago, IL, Leo (Debbie) Schnell of Sturgis, SD, Tim (Jeanne) Schnell of Pomona, CA, Mike (Beth) Schnell of Black Hawk, SD, Mary Olson of Volga, SD, Patty Schnell of San Diego, CA, Sharon (John) Allen of Sioux Falls SD, and Denis Schnell of Sioux Falls, SD; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife-Margaret and brother-Donald.
