Dwaine Einer Nelson died April 15, 2020 at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, SD.

Dwaine Einer Nelson was born February 11, 1924 to Ainer Andrew and Sena Marie (Jensen) Nelson on a farm south of Lake Preston, SD.  The family moved to a farm east of Hetland, SD in 1935.  He was baptized and confirmed at Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church, where he was a member until 1974.  He attended school at Hetland from 6th grade through hig school.  He was in the US Army from February, 1945-November, 1946.

Dwaine married Joanne Hesby on December 6, 1947.  He farmed near Hetland from 1946-1974.  He moved to Lake Preston.  In 1974 he married Arlene Keiser.  They lived in Lake Preston until 1987 when they moved to Brookings, SD.  In 1994 they bought a home in Sinai, SD.

Dwaine held most of the offices of the American Legion in Hetland, SD, during his 40 years of membership there.  He was a Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School teacher at Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church for several years.  He was on the first zoning board at Kingsbury County for about four years; President of Kingsbury Farm Bureau for a few years; President of the Arlington Bowling Association for many years; served on the Lake Preston City Council and was a member of Lake Preston Lutheran Church.  He was a member of Kiwanis Club in Lake Prston; served on the Sinai town board and is a member of the Sinai Lutheran Church.  He was a father, farmer, plumber, electrician, carpenter and a master fix-it guy.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, baking, cooking, playing cards and visiting with people.  He loved all of his family.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Arlene; sons, Tony (Paula) Nelson of Vermillion, SD; Richard Nelson of Tucson, AZ; Kurt (Jodi) Nelson of Sinai, SD, daughters, Anita Nelson and significant other, Brian Detmers of Brookings, SD and Carol (Paul) Maycroft of Ada, MI. His stepchildren, Carla (Dale) Jakeway of Rapid City, SD; Caryn Isaacson of Watertown, SD; Roger (Val) Keiser of Marana, AZ and Roy (Kathy) Keiser of Arlington, SD.  Grandchildren; Adam (Anna Carlson) Nelson; Kayla (Blake) Warren; Joshua Nelson; Breanne (Tim) Brezina; Jordan Nelson; Alexia and Makenzie Thuringer; Frances (Jared) Becker; Catherine Maycroft.  Step-Grandchildren; Cory Jakeway and Dana (Tyler) Schimmel; Jennifer (Brian) Harms; Stacey (Aaron) Rost; Camille (Dave) Jacobson; Cody (Darcy) Keiser and Megan (Evan) Walterman; thirteen Great-Grandchildren; nephews; Terry (Marcia) Anderson and Dan Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ainer and Sena Nelson; his sister and brother-in-law, Leila(Nelson) Anderson and Russell Anderson; son-in-law, Jamie Isaacson and niece Tracey Anderson.

A private family graveside services with Military Honors will be held at a later date in the Arlington City Cemetery at Arlington, SD.  Memorial can be sent to the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home at PO Box 364, Arlington, SD 57212
