Donald Hildebrandt

Donald L. Hildebrandt, 87, of Brookings, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Brookings Health System. Funeral services will begin on Monday, March 9 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Brookings. Refreshments will be served one hour prior with family present to visit. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Wentworth. Visitation with family present will also be held on Sunday from 5 – 7 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home in Madison.
Donald Luther Hildebrandt was born on May 11, 1932 in Madison, SD to Paul and Susan (Gould) Hildebrandt. He grew up around the Madison and Wentworth areas and attended General Beadle School. After high school, Don served in the National Guard. He was united in marriage to Dolores Ann Erks on February 5, 1951 and to the marriage they brought four children-Rick, Randy, Luann and Linda. They farmed in the Wentworth, Ramona and Colman areas. Dolores passed away in 1986. Don later married Marleen Swenson. When he retired from farming, he moved to Brookings, worked at the lumber yard in Volga and then moved to Madison and worked at Fullerton Lumber Yard. After some health issues, he moved back to Brookings, resided with his daughter and later moved to The Neighborhoods at Brookview. Don was an avid New York Yankees and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed Indy Car races and Fox News.
Grateful for having Don in their lives are: his son Rick (LaRae) Hildebrandt of Brookings, daughters, Luann (Lee) Lunt of Brookings and Linda Werner of SeaTac, Washington; 9 grandchildren, Eric, Kristin, Chris, Tony, Stephanie, Sandy, Angie, Sarah and Nicole; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan (Merle) White of Blackhawk, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, son, Randy, 3 brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, son-in-law, Mike and one nephew.
