Derrin Miller

Derrin Dale Miller, 57, of Spencer, SD passed away surrounded by his family on December 3, 2019 at his residence.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 7th at Church of the Epiphany in Epiphany, SD.  Visitation with family present will begin at 4 pm on Friday with a prayer service to be held at 7 pm, also at the church.

Derrin Miller was born on March 15, 1962 to Duane, Sr. and Marcella (Marquardt) Miller in Sioux Falls, SD.  The family lived on a farm near Unityville until 6^th grade when they moved to the farm that he lived on for the rest of his life.  Derrin attended school at Canova, SD and then started farming, along with running a dairy operation. Derrin married Kimberly Neuberger on September 2, 1989 in Eden, SD.  They went on to have three children, Austin Jacob, Marshall Thomas and Tanner John.  He sold his dairy cattle in 2011 and purchased Black Angus cattle to raise along with crop farming.  He loved having his boys with him while he was milking cows and out in the field.

Derrin was on the Board of directors for the Canova Elevator until it merged with Central Farmers.  He remained on the Central Farmers Board of Directors for several years.  He was currently serving on the Nugen Energy Board of Directors and was also a member of the Canova Baseball Association.

Derrin was a fan of baseball, supporting the local Canova Gang baseball team that he played on for a few years.  He loved watching his boys play youth baseball, helping the coaches when needed.  He coached Teener baseball for 4 years and in 2011 started coaching the Miner/McCook Legion baseball team and coached them for 6 years.  He led his teams to the State Tournament every year, taking home the championship in 2015.  He loved watching the Minnesota Twins on TV.  His other favorite past-time was playing cards-with pinochle being favorite.

Derrin is survived by:  his wife, Kim; sons, Marshall (Morgan) Miller and Tanner Miller; his dad, Duane (Stub) Miller, Sr.; brothers, Duane (Mary Ann) Miller, Jr., Ed Miller, Joel (Laura) Miller, Rollie (Gina) Miller, Travis (Tara) Miller, Corey (Kelly) Miller and sister Stacy (Bob) Wingen; step-sister, Sandy (Jack) Mendonca; sister-in-law, Rhonda Miller; mother- and father-in-law, Hilary and Dorothy Neuberger; sisters-in-law, Tamra (Randy) Holbeck, Roxanne (David) Lucchesi; brothers-in-law, Terry (Cheryl) Neuberger and Eric Neuberger; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Austin, mother, Marcella and grandparents, Vernon (Spike) Velva Miller and Ray and Isadora Marquardt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be given to organizations of Derrin’s choice.
