Dale Dykes
Dale Roger Dykes was born at Bridgewater, SD to Nathan and Marie (Gossel) Dykes on December 31, 1942. Â He passed away September 10, 2024 at the age of 81 years at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls, SD. Â A memorial service will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 at 7 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem. Â Family will be present one hour prior to the service to greet guests.
Dale attended grade school at Sievers’ School and Coolidge’s School and graduated from Bridgewater High School.  He attended Mitchell Technical Institute as a non-traditional student and received an accounting certificate.
On September 22, 1963 he married Marlene Buller at Silver Lake Mennonite Church and was blessed with 47 years of marriage. Â They made rural Alexandria, SD their home where they welcomed their four children, Marsha, Kevin, Michael and Kristi into their lives. Â They were actively involved in their families lives and made sure their children and grandchildren experienced the natural wonders and beauties through camping trips off the beaten path.
Dale served his country in the Army National Guard with Battery A, 3rd Howitzer Battalion, 147th Field Artillery from 1961 to 1967, receiving training at Ft. Carson, CO and Hunter Liggett Military Reservation, CA. Â He received an honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant.
Before marriage he worked for the South Dakota Livestock Sanitary Board, blood testing cows and vaccinating calved for brucellosis, Ben Schrag well drilling, and Farmer’s Dairy and Produce Co-op in Freeman.
He farmed all his married life along with a few sideline businesses.  After passing the CPA exam he worked for Tom Koehn, CPA, Cahill and Zacher and Co, PC and Miles Winship, CPA to get the experience to become a CPA permit holder.  He ran his own certified accounting business for 24 years, ran Dykes’ Monuments, Dykes’ Elk Farm and worked as Hanson County Director of Equalization.
He served on the Accounting Department Advisory Committee for Mitchell Technical Institute and was a member of Minnesota Elk Breeders Association and North America Deer Farmers.
Grateful for sharing his life are: his children, Marsha (Phil) Schulz of Madison, SD, Kevin Dykes of Mitchell, SD, Michael (Susan) Dykes of Brandon, SD and Kristi (Brian) Delahoyde of Spearfish, SD; his grandchildren, Kyle and Ashley Schulz, Ryan and Chelsie Schulz, Collin and Lexie Schulz, James and Kayla Dykes, Diane Dykes, Adam Dykes, Kaylene Delahoyde and Brayden Delahoyde; his great-grandchildren, Sierra Thielsen, Harlee Schulz, Lane Schulz, Mazie Schulz, Milez Schulz, Metz Schulz, Hunter Schulz, Charlotte Schulz and Emerson Schulz; his siblings, Virjean Hadrick, Glenda Stephenson, and Daniel (Vickie) Dykes; and his in-laws, Carol and Loren Tschetter, Patricia and Marvin Buller and Sandra and Lee Kaufman.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Marlene in 2011, his parents, Nathan and Marie Dykes, his sister, Wanda (John) Buell, his sister-in-law, Kathy Krebs Dykes, his brother-in-law, Donald Hadrick and his father and mother-in-law, Marvin and Sarah Buller.
