Charlie Lundholm
Charlie Lundholm, age 92, of Madison, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Bethel Lutheran Home.
Memorial service will be 11 AM on Saturday, October 12th at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Lindley officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Friday at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Prairie Hill Cemetery, Bradley, SD.
Charles Emanuel Lundholm was born January 13, 1932 to Clarence and Gladys (Frybarger) Lundholm at Bradley, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm just east and south of Bradley, where his brother, Junie currently farms. He attended school in Bradley, South Dakota and graduated May 26, 1950. After graduation, he continued to work on the farm for five more years. On January 27, 1955, Charles was united in marriage to Ida Stacey. In November 1956, he was called to serve his country in the Army and was stationed in Hohenfels, Germany. Charles and Ida made their home in Madison to this union two daughters Sandra and Tammy were born. Charles held many occupations when he first started the milk plant then went on to the Lake County highway department part-time delivered appliances for Wards and finally on to the City of Madison as custodian until his retirement. Among his many talents, he also went to college to learn woodworking. He surprised his oldest daughter by making her a cedar hope chest. He maintained his woodworking skills and made scroll saw Nativity Scenes for some very special people in his life along with pop guns slingshots and kite string holders for his grandchildren and paper towel holders tractors airplanes lamps using a lathe and just about anything his children could draw out became a reality. While his grandchildren were growing up, he would melt down lead and provide them with weights for fishing and in his retirement years he had taken up gardening and growing fruit trees apple, pear and cherry. Charles always had a story to tell or happily helped anyone who needed it. He was always there for his family. Each of his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He always told his daughter that he would be only there to buy Christmas gifts for the grandchildren that he did. He was blessed to have five grandchildren-Terrence, Jeremiah, Ashley, Alec, and Hannah. He has four great-grandchildren-Mackenzie, Katelyn, Chase and Alexander. Charles was so blessed to be part of so many lives and his memory will go on forever through his legacy of his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his wife, Ida Jane of 69 years; two daughters, Sandra (Daniel) Roush of Bradley, SD and Tammy (Roger) Olson of Madison, SD; five grandchildren-Terrance (Samantha) Roush of Faribault, MN, Jeremiah (Amanda) Roush of Owatonna, MN, Ashley Dwyer of Faribault, MN, Alec Olson of San Diego, CA and Hannah (Austin) Eulberg of Sioux Falls; four great-grandchildren, McKenzie Raab, Katelyn Dwyer, Chase Roush and Alexander Dwyer; brother, Junie (Dorothy) Lundholm of Watertown, SD and sister, Lois Stacey of Bradley, SD and sister-in-law, Dorothy Stacey of Madison, SD.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gladys; brother, Marcus; sister and her husband, Lauretta & Gus Luvaas and Gus; as well as his grandparents and brother-in-law, Red Stacey.
