Celeste L. Mokros, 62, of Salem passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2020.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 8 at Christ Lutheran Church in Salem.  Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday with family present from 5 -7 and a prayer service to be held at 7 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.


Celeste Lucile Vinz was born the baby of fifteen children, on August 15, 1958 to Henry and E. Lucile (Karlson) Vinz.  She grew up on the farm north of Spencer.  Celeste attended country school until 3rd grade and graduated from Spencer High School.  She was confirmed and baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer.  Celeste started her time out farming and then owned the Clubhouse, where she turned the bar into a café and added a grocery store.  She then worked at the nursing home and finished her career working over 20 years at the United States Post Office.  She married Doug Mokros on June 30, 2000.  They lived in Salem and were members of Christ Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council.  Celeste enjoyed making cutout cookies with her many grandchildren, hosting family events, playing cards, fishing, gardening, Uno, decorating her Christmas tree, going to movies, planning the Vinz family reunion, writing letters and watching the Minnesota Vikings.  She especially loved time with her grandkids and talking to family on the phone.


Celeste is survived by:  her husband, Doug Mokros, kids, Cody (Jennifer) Hoefert, Casey Hoefert, Grant Hoefert, and Garrett (Tracey) Hoefert, Misti (Nick) McGregor, and Becky (Nathan) Olinger, 14 grandkids and numerous other family members.


She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
