Betty Wengert
Betty Wengert, age 97, of Madison, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Bethel Lutheran Home.
Funeral service will be 2 PM on Wednesday, July 3rd at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with Pastor Peggy Hanson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Betty Mae Clymore was born April 11, 1927 near Ramona, SD, and was the third of four children of Carroll & Annie (Christensen) Clymore. She graduated from General Beadle High School in Madison and in 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Wengert, while he was home on leave from the service.
Betty had numerous jobs including working as a telephone operator. After she learned job printing at Midwest Beach in Sioux Falls, she returned to Madison and spent 33 years at the Madison Daily Leader.
After her retirement, Betty & Charles spent winters in Arizona. She learned how to do yarn crafts from a fellow snowbird. She also did counted cross stitch and has sold some of her work over the years. Betty was also an artist and had one of her paintings hanging in her room. She also enjoys playing Bingo at Bethel.
Betty is survived by her three children, Ike (Rose) Wengert of Madison, Doreen (Steve) Olson of Howard and Anita (Larry) Foster of Colton; nine grandchildren & fifteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Yvonne Lengkeek of Madison and several other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Robert & Frank and grandson, Shannon Foster.
