Alva Pedersen, 93, of Canistota passed away at Canistota Good Samaritan.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota.  Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, October 30 at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Alva Roth was born April 30, 1927 to Reinhold and Emma (Junke) Roth on a farm near Clayton, SD.  She grew up in the Clayton area where she attended country school.  On March 3, 1946 she married John Nelson.  They lived near Salem where they farmed and raised their five children.  John passed away in 1971 and in 1973 Alva married Aksel Pedersen.  They farmed together in the Inwood, IA area for many years before Aksel’s passing in 1993.

Alva was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota.  She enjoyed doing embroidery, going to rummage sales and auctions and collecting angels.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy.

Alva is survived by: her children, Darlene Tieszen and John (Connie) Nelson of Canistota, Janet (Bill) Moller of Mitchell and Carla (Tim) Kroger of Inwood, IA; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by: her parents, two husbands, a daughter, Deb, a son-in-law, Albert, a granddaughter, Denise and 11 siblings.
