Veterans Honor Park Nearing Completion
The Veterans Honor Park in Madison is nearing completion. The park is located on land along South Washington Avenue in Madison across from Lewis Drug, which was donated by Jerry and Sue Larsen. The park honors past, present and future veterans and their families.Â
The project initially broke ground in 2021. Danny Frisby-Griffin, Chair of the Veterans Honor Park Committee, says the final granite paths should be installed soon.Â
There are about 828 names currently on the paths, with room for an additional 395 names. More names will be added going forward on a six month cycle. Frisby-Griffin says they hope to have a ribbon cutting ceremony this fall. Benches will still be added, and landscaping will take place next spring. He says fundraising for the park will be on-going.Â
Both the Ronald Westby VFW Post and the McKibbin-Mosher American Legion Post of Madison are joining together in the effort to raise money for the park.
