South Dakota man arrested for January 6th assault

A South Dakota man has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly assaulting law enforcement during the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol in 2021. 

 William George Knight, age 37, of Rapid City was charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers, both felony offenses.

In addition to the felonies, Knight is charged with five misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings.

The FBI arrested Knight this past Sunday in Rapid City. 

In the 40 months since the insurrection at the capitol,  more than 1,424 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 500 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, which is a felony. The investigation remains ongoing.
