Reisch and Walburg win close District 8 House Primary

Former Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg, and incumbent Tim Reisch, were the unofficial winners of Tuesday’s District 8 House Republican Primary. Reisch received 1,728 votes (or 35%), Walburg 1,681 votes (34%), and Matt Wagner 1,500 votes (31%). 

Walburg received the 3rd most votes in Brookings, Kingsbury, and Miner Counties, but picked up nearly 600 more votes than Wagner in Lake County. The Lake County totals were: Walburg 1,064, Reisch 883, and Wagner 446. 

Casey Crabtree was the winner of the District 8 Republican Senate Primary. Crabtree received 2,057 votes (72%), to challenger Rick Weible’s 799 votes (28%). 1,028 votes were cast for Crabtree in Lake County, and 287 for Weible. 

In the District 25 Republican Primary, which includes portions of Moody and Minnehaha counties, incumbent Tom Pischke defeated challenger and former District 8 senator Jordan Youngberg. Pischke received 1,369 votes (68%), and Youngburg 654 (32%).

Results are unofficial. The Lake County Commission will canvass votes at their meeting Thursday.
