Man sentenced in Lake County in Sexual Assault case
A 22-year old man was sentenced to time in the Lake County Jail on Monday at the Lake County Courthouse. Landry Leighton Knight entered a guilty plea to Sexual Contact Without Consent with a Person Capable of Consenting, pursuant to a plea agreement. Knight was originally arrested by the Madison Police Department in October of 2022, for 2nd Degree Rape, following a report of a sexual assault against a local college student at a house party.Â
According to a press release from the Lake County States Attorney’s Office, the agreement was reached in order to save the victim from additional trauma or revictimization.
Circuit Judge Kent A. Shelton sentenced Knight to a year in the Lake County Jail, with all
but 180 days suspended. Knight was remanded to the custody of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to immediately begin serving his six-month jail sentence. As a condition of his suspended sentence, Knight will be placed on supervised probation for 2 years after his release from incarceration; during which time he is to pay fines, costs, and restitution of approximately two-thousand dollars, complete a psychosexual evaluation, follow all recommendations of that evaluation, remain a law-abiding citizen, not ingest any alcohol or drugs, and have no contact with the victim or her family.
