Madison’s Direct Line to Lewis & Clark Water Now Operational
The City of Madison officially became the 19th member connected to the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, as the city started receiving water from Lewis & Clark on Friday morning. Madison was an original member of Lewis & Clark, and the Articles of Incorporation were signed on January 29th of 1990, 12,604 days prior to the connection that began Friday.Â
Madison had been receiving water through a “wheeling plan” that went into operation in 2017. The idea for the wheeling came after the city’s freshwater storage tank collapsed in 2014. Madison Mayor Roy Lindsay says that after repairs were complete, the city reached out to Big Sioux and Minnehaha Community Water systems to see if they had available water. When they discovered that both those systems needed water, a plan was created for a temporary hook up to Lewis & Clark. Those hook ups remain in place now, along with the direct connection to Lewis and Clark.Â
A ribbon cutting for the 1-million gallon ground storage tank that is now in operation will be held August 21st.
