Madison Sales Tax receipts up 15% in 2024

Sales tax receipts are up significantly this year in the city of Madison. April alone saw a nearly 49% increase in sales tax receipts from a year ago. In fact, April’s $556,545 was more than $50,000 higher than any single month in the past three years.

There was some concern last month that April’s figures may have been a mistake, but City Administrator Jameson Berreth said that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Overall, 2024 tax receipts are up over 15% from this time last year. Every month of the year has seen an increase from the previous year, and the past three months have all been up over ten percent from the previous year.

2023’s tax receipts were also up consistently month over month from 2022, showing consistent growth for the city.
