Flood Warning into Saturday, 1-3 inches of rain still to come

Lake County is under a Flood Warning, and a Flash Flood Warning this morning, as South Dakota wakes up from heavy rains last night.

A Flood Warning is in effect for Lake, Miner, Moody, Minnehaha, McCook, Turner,, Bon Homme, Clay, Davison, Hanson, Hutchinson, Sanborn, and Yankton counties.

Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. The Flood Warning remains in effect until 7:30am Saturday.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area over the next 24 hours.

Lake County Emergency Management says there are a few roads in the county with some water running over them.

Officials remind you to be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock an adult off their feet. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement. If you have flooded areas, you can also report them to KJAM, and we will post them to AmazingMadison.com
